BIOGRAPHY

Born on 6 November 1966 in Modena, he lives between San Pancrazio (Mo) and Milan.                          

Studies in literature, residencies in Beijing (2015), Berlin (2011) and Brooklyn (2010).

Among the leading Italian artists of his generation, he made his debut in the 1980s as a draftsman for independent publications, creating works in ink on paper and notebooks in which restless figures and abandoned places appear, often collaborating with musicians and writers. He has developed a research on the contemporary landscape, time and memory, investigating industrial areas, suburbs, spaces suspended in time, through rigorous oil painting on linen, which blends with the concepts of impermanence and emptiness. The most recent works created are dedicated to nature: from the places left by man, to nature understood as a metaphor for the human condition, to the universal process of cause and effect, called Natura Vincit.                                                                  He won the Gotham Prize, Italian Cultural Institute New York (2012); 1st Terna Award (2008); V Cairo Editore Prize (2004), XXXVIII Suzzara Prize (1998).
